Not long now until April 21. .......................................................................Hello! I am glad that you are reading this. Yesterday I ran 14 miles through Wellesley asking myself, why am I doing this?? I am doing this because training for a marathon is great exercise and the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary is a great place to support. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . I joined the MEEI as Director of Vision Rehabilitation in September, 2006. In that Clinic we have a fabulous staff of seven, dedicated people who are our 'MEEI Team'. We see patients who have, for whatever cause, diminished vision that impacts their day-to-day function. The task of our team is to assist those patients to train to use their remaining sight, with devices, with techniques or with alternate strategies, so that they are able to do the things they need to do, and want to do. For example, our patients learn to listen to the newspaper by dialing a service called Newsline on their cellphone. They read their recipes under a video camera magnifier and our occupational therapists assist them to make modifications in their homes to enhance safety and independence. . . .
