MASS AFL-CIO's Fundraising Page
The 12th Annual Walk to Cure Cancer sponsored by the Massachusetts AFL-CIO will be held on September 26, 2010 at the UMass Medical School campus in Worcester. This year’s Walk to Cure Cancer will hold a very special meaning for the Massachusetts Labor Movement as we have lost one of our brothers to cancer, former Vice President of IBEW Local 2222 and of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO, Jerry Leary. Jerry passed away on December 11, 2009, after a hard fought battle with cancer.
Lazare Medical ResearchBuilding is named the Massachusetts AFL-CIO Cancer Research Center as a result of these efforts. While we are incredibly proud of this milestone, we must continue our efforts to find a cure. The devastating loss of Jerry serves as a reminder that cancer research remains ever so important. It is through funding and research at facilities such as the MassachusettsAFL-CIO Cancer Research Center that a cure can one day become a reality.

Everyone has had their lives affected by cancer, whether it is a family member, friend or co-worker that has suffered from this terrible disease. The entire Labor Movement was dealt a great loss through Jerry’s untimely death. In honor of Jerry, we ask that you join us Sunday, September 26th at Noon at the UMass Medical School Campus in Worcester.
Gerald Leary was an irreplaceable part of our state's Labor Movement. He will be sorely missed and his lasting impact sets an example towards which all of us should strive. His loss should motivate us to all give our best effort to this year’s Massachusetts AFL-CIO Walk to Cure Cancer.
