Running for Bryon Burdick & Habitat for Humanity
It’s that time once more. Yup, I’m asking for your money yet again. The 2008 installment of my annual run for charity in Bryon’s memory is here…
I recently started my training for the 13.1 mile City of Oaks Half Marathon, to be held in Raleigh, NC on November 2nd. My race goal is sub 1:30 (6:52 min/mile). More importantly, my/our goal for this marathon is to raise $4,000 in memory of Bryon.
The Habitat for Humanity stands out as a very worthy recipient of our funds and time (they received a 4 star rating from Charity Navigator). They build simple, decent, affordable homes in partnership with families living at modest income levels who cannot qualify for mortgages at market rates. Habitat for Humanity helps people build and buy their own homes. It works by creating opportunity, not dependency.
Yes, here’s where I ask you for money... again :) Please consider giving in support of this great organization. It's tax deductible.
Full disclosure – this year’s run will actually be a half marathon. My return to marathoning in Nov 2007 and Feb 2008 resulted in severe overheating/dehydration problems in and after both races. Subsequently, my run for charity in 2008 will be a half marathon; apparently I’m supposed to be careful with one kidney. No worries though, I have every intention to upgrade back to the full 26.2 miles when cleared. Know that I will still give my full effort this year, in spite of the shorter distance.
Thank you for any contributions; I plan on making both you and Bryon proud.
