I am running the Boston Marathon again and coming to you all for donations. Allow me to explain why I am doing this and perhaps it will make it a little easier to reach into your charitable side.

A few years ago, I met a woman named Andrea Casanova. She is perhaps one of the strongest people I have ever met. Andrea's Daughter, Ally, was brutally murdered at a highway rest stop on July 18, 2002, by an employee who had numerous assault, battery and sexual assault convictions. I spoke with Andrea at length during a fundraising event and was captivated by this woman. Here sat a woman, whose daughter was taken from her in the worst of possible ways, and she was smiling and pushing forward to make sure that this would never happen to someone else.

The ALLY Foundation was established by Ally's family to make sure the fate that Ally suffered would not have to be experienced by anyone else.

It is a testament to a person's strength when they get back on their feet after tragedy. Ally's family and friends, through the ALLY Foundation, not only got back on their feet, but are actively working to keep serial offenders off the streets and away from causing harm in society.

Andrea wrote the runner's after the last marathon:
"I cannot tell you how much it means to me personally to have you all participate. While stopping repeat sex offenses is our achievable mission, and we are raising awareness as well as resources to do this, it remains in my heart a tribute to a smiling, giving, wonderful little person who we have lost. "

The Mission of The ALLY Foundation is to prevent opportunities for violent sex offenses, to educate the public, and advocate for necessary changes in culture, attitude and policy. We are driving a growing national movement towards better management of sex offenders as we continue to advocate for the most effective ways of reducing victimization in every community. With 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men being sexually abused in their lifetime, a large segment of our society are victims or in danger of becoming victims of sexual abuse. Our goal is to advocate for innovative policies that have the potential to prevent upwards of 50,000 crimes committed by know sex offenders each year!
