Matt's first polar plunge
Hello and thank you for visiting my Personal Fundraising Page. I want to get cold for a very good reason and that is to raise money for the Special Olympics!!!!
The origin of the Polar Plunge to Benefit Special Olympics Virginia goes back to 1993.
Adventure Club East was busy trying to find something fun and creative to do in the middle of the winter. Coincidentally,
Special Olympics Virginia was looking for new fund raising avenues and the two pieces just came together. That first plunge, held at the Clarion hotel, featured all of about 34 plungers and still raised almost $8,000.
Since then, Polar Plunge has raised over $2.5 million dollars for Special Olympics Virginia and over 17,500 chilled souls have taken the plunge. Because of this generous support, Special Olympics Virginia is able to reach out and provide year round training and sports programs for both children and adults with intellectual disabilities throughout the state of Virginia.
This is a great way for our local Area 11 Special Olympics program to show our support to our athletes, as 75 percent of what I raise goes to our local program. The remaining 25 percent goes to our state based program, so everything is geared towards our athletes.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to make a contribution to my fundraising efforts.
Don't forget to make your pledge and please forward this to anyone else who might want to provide support.
Thanks so much,
Matthew Lux
