Meg McDermott's Fundraising Page 2011!
In a recent NIJ study, 8.1% of U.S. adolescents ages 12-17 reported having been the victim of at least one sexual assault. This indicates that an estimated 1.8 million American kids have been sexually assaulted before their 18th birthday. Approximately 1 in 3 adolescent girls in the U.S. is a victim of physical, emotional or verbal abuse from a dating partner. Massachusetts public high school girls who reported having experienced physical or sexual violence from a dating partner are 8-9 times more likely than their peers to have attempted suicide in the last year.
2011 marks my third year walking with the incredible women, men and children who come out to support the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center at the annual Walk for Change. This year, I'm walking to honor the kids who have survived rape and abuse--kids often hurt by someone they know and love and who depend on BARCC for support, information and free services.
Please consider supporting me as I Walk for Change by donating to BARCC, the only organization in Boston that provides comprehensive services to survivors of rape and sexual assault. In the last year alone, BARCC helped more than 4,000 survivors and another 10,000 people through prevention education, training and outreach.
Whether you love BARCC or you love me, please sponsor me! Five dollars, ten dollars, every dollar counts! Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts. Please feel free to forward this page to anyone who might be interested.
Sponsor me! Walk with me! Ask me about volunteering at BARCC! And thank you so much for taking the time to read this page! Sexual violence can be prevented. Stay safe! Get help! Believe survivors!
