To give you a little background on why HDSA is so important to me...my father was diagonsed with Huntington's Disease in 1997. Since then, my family and I have been dealing with the progression of the disease, but it is only until the last year that my father has gotten progressively worse. It is said that HD is like having Multiple Sclerosis, Alzheimer's, and Cancer all at once. I have a 50% chance of inheriting this disease. My brother and sister also have a 50% chance. Which means my nieces and nephew could each be affected.
HD is a "family disease", not just because it is inherited, but because it profoundly affects the entire family emotionally, socially, and financially. Currently, there is no effective treatment or cure. This is why we are so passionate to find answers. We are fighting against time, in order to save our families.
I’ve found a great way to help - through the Huntington’s Disease Society of America (HDSA) Team Hope Walking for HD Walk-a-thon. I’ll be walking at Harkness Memorial State Park on Saturday May 16, 2009 to help raise funds for the care and cure of HD, and you can help too! Simply make a donation to HDSA and I’ll do the rest. You may also choose to join us in the walk.
Our Walk Goal this year is to raise $8,000!!! With your support, I hope to raise at least $500.00.
Please take a stand with me against this devastating disease by making a flat donation of $10, $25, $50 or whatever you can afford. Any amount is appreciated! Not only will you help me to achieve that goal, but you’ll also be helping the HDSA to fund vital research, education, and services for all those affected by HD.
My hope is that through the fundraising efforts of HDSA, there can be a better future for me, my siblings, and my entire family.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
