Megan Fitton's Fundraising Page
On Sunday, September 13, 2009, my teammates and I will come together again for the 11th Annual Walk to Cure Cancer. The five mile walk-a-thon raises money to support research at UMass Memorial Cancer Center at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. The Walk is proudly sponsored by the working families of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO. Now, in its 11th year, over 50,000 walkers have joined the Walk to Cure Cancer and raised nearly $6 million. We will walk in honor of those we know who have battled cancer, and help support the research to help others in their fight. For more information visit www.walktocurecancer.com.
My personal story: As most of you know, my Mom was diagnosed with cancer in 2007 - shortly before my team and I signed up for the 9th Annual Walk. We worked hard to raise money as this cause was especially close to us all. We planned to walk together and hoped my Mom would join us for the last mile to take part in this special event. Unfortunately, my Mom lost her hard-fought, courageous battle in October 2007. Last year, I walked in her honor and memory, knowing that she was with me every step. I will do the same this year, again, with her watching over me. I also walk for (and with!) one of my very close friends whose strength, courage and determination helped her conquer her battle with cancer and who remains cancer free since March 2006. I am so proud of her and thankful for her! I walk, too, for my cherished friend who lost her battle with cancer 11 years ago when she was taken from us far too early and far too young, and I know that she will be cracking jokes at me from her place in heaven while I walk again this year. I walk for my grandparents who also suffered at the hands of this disease, and for the many others who have been touched by cancer.
Thank you in advance if you are able to make a donation - no matter the size! Every cent helps and is very much appreciated.
Together we can make a difference!
With much love and thanks,
Megan Fitton and the Hope Walkers crew
