Thank you so much for all of your amazing support.
Please give whatever you can--every little bit helps. An anonymous donor is matching every dollar that you give. With your help, we can go above and beyond our goal!
In honor of Covenant House New Jersey's 20th Anniversary, my friends and I wanted to not only beautify their facility, but also raise funds to support their valuable services. Please check out our photos on the left, read my letter below, and consider contributing to this great cause. Every little bit helps.
Dear Friends,
My name is Megan Malloy and I am a senior at Kent Place School in Summit, NJ. I am writing to you today to tell you about a project I am working on at Covenant House New Jersey.
In the midst of too many examples of desolation and isolation inescapably found on the streets of Newark, NJ, Covenant House is nothing less than a beacon of hope and opportunity for the community. Covenant House is, in its strictest definition, a homeless shelter for youth aged 18-21, but anybody who has experienced Covenant House first-hand will tell you that it is so much more than that. Privately funded, Covenant House is focused on the success of each and every young adult, and has the unmatched ability to give individual attention to each youth, whether it be legal, emotional, vocational, spiritual, or medical assistance. Since the
Newark location's inception 20 years ago, over 20,000 youth have come through the Covenant House and received the help that they needed. Inspired by the remarkable ability of the youth of Covenant House to transubstantiate their pain into something beautiful, I wanted to start a project to have the youth themselves beautify the walls of the Crisis Center.
Acclaimed artist, Victoria Febrer, led a series of workshops with and a group of young residents and high school volunteers exploring the possibilities of how to translate pain, memories, and hopes for the future into artistic images which would inspire present and future inhabitants of Covenant House. The youth's theme for the mural is "Past, Present, Future," evoking the reality that time spent living at the Crisis Center is temporary, and the continual passage of time, dealing with past mistakes and tribulations, and paving the road to a better future are struggles that all Covenant House denizens have in common. The resulting mural incorporates silhouettes of the residents expressing their emotions towards past, present, and future. These life-sized silhouettes act as windows to the city skyline, providing the youth with an uplifting view to a space which they can readily enter and become a part of.
The logo very often used alongside Covenant House's name is that of a dove. The image of the dove represents to us the vulnerability we have felt in the past, the struggle to fly we are feeling in the present, and the hopes we have for the future. One wall will be dedicated to a collage of doves, each with a name inscribed in it. Doves can be purchased in sponsorship increments.

With the money raised from this project, Covenant House hopes to bring back the position of a General Education Development (GED) teacher, who has in the past been such a fantastic resource in helping youth obtain their educational goals.
Any amount that you could contribute to our efforts would be immeasurably appreciated. Your name or the dedication of your choice could be painted on our wall at your request. If you are interested in learning more about Covenant House, I encourage you to take a tour of the Crisis Center or contact us by email or phone (information below) in setting up a meeting to meet some of the incredible kids living at Covenant House.
Thank you so much for your time and we hope to hear from you soon.
