Melissa London's Fundraising Page
The students did it! They met their goal of rasing $1500 for Barakat's Afghanistan initiaitive during our five-week Service-Learning project. In fact, our 72 sixth graders MORE than met their goal. Collectively, they raised more than $8000 for Barakat's literacy programs for girls and women in Afghanistan!! That means that, at $40 per student/per year, the Pierce community can fund an academic year for more than 200 Afghan girls and women. Way to go, 6th Graders!
I have to tell you that even if the children had not met their monetary goal, they certainly could have felt enormously proud of all their efforts to achieve success with the other two prongs of their Service-Learning action plan: Understanding Afghanistan and Islam and Outreach/Public Relations. If you need any proof of this at all, then check out their incredible blog: www.phar.edublogs.org (which is still being updated with reports on their experience during the Walk for Literacy, photos and personal reflections).
I thank you for all the incredible support you have given me!
Best,
Melissa
