What is the BIG Sweep?

The BIG Sweep is a one-day community service project where participants collect donations to benefit their non-profit organization and volunteer to clean up trash (and recyclables!) from areas across Frederick. The proceeds from our team will be donated to the Frederick Giving Project.

This year The BIG Sweep takes place on Saturday April 16 from 9:00-1:00, prior to the huge Frederick Earth Day event.

Participating is a great way to get out and directly make a difference for both the Frederick Giving Project and for the environment. Below is an excerpt from the event’s website on the positive impact it has had on the community.

“Since 2002, The Big Sweep has mobilized 8,103 volunteers who have picked up over 144 tons of trash and recyclables and 3,989 tires from Frederick City and County roads, parks and waterways. These teams have raised $380,000 for their nonprofits of choice!”

Why donate?

Each year, the Frederick Giving Project raises money in order to make a grant to a local Frederick County nonprofit chosen by our members. For more information, see www.frederickgivingproject.org. 70% of the money our team raises will go to the Frederick Giving Project.

30% of the funds go to The BIG Sweep allowing the program to continue and operate every year. Not only does the event help individuals raise thousands of dollars for charities, but it also directly impacts the local community as volunteers from each team clean up trash as part of a one-day beautification project.

How to get involved?

You can volunteer to help pick up trash off the streets of Frederick on the day of The BIG Sweep (April 16th) or you can just donate if you can’t make it out for the event.

To donate please make a simple, fast and totally secure donation through this website by April 14th. All donations are tax deductible too!

After we are done (around 1:00) downtown Frederick is hosting its annual Earth Day celebration which is free and includes music, a beer garden, farmers market, a vendor area, art, nonprofit organizations' info booths, and a kids activity area. Perfect activities for all ages and especially kids!

Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to participate/donate too!

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to make a contribution to our fundraising efforts. Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
