Dear Friends,
On Sat. Sept. 26th 2009, I'm very excited to be participating in my 4th Annual Raritan Valley Habitat for Humanity Women Build Work Day Program !.The first year we put roof shingles on a 3 story Duplex in Bernardsville,( so far there's been no reports of any leaks!) the next year we learned how to dig sump pits and helped to lay a concrete foundation ( even made it into the newspaper), last year we learned how to put up plywood and prepare the skin of the house in Franklin. I'm slowly learning how to build a house from top to bottom. Who knows what adventure awaits me for 2009! Each year, along with other Habitat volunteers I am given the opportunity to help to build a modest home for a hard-working, low-income family in our region.
Decent, affordable housing is scarce in Somerset and Hunterdon counties, forcing many low-income familiesand children to live in overcrowded, unsafe conditions. The Women Build program challenges women to build a better future for the children of central New Jersey by addressing the problem of substandard housing. By participating in Women Build, I will be giving other women and their families a “hand up” by helping them to build a home of their own. I believe that creating a safe place for children to come home to is a worthwhile investment in our future.
Now here's where you come in.. no, .I'm not asking you to don a toolbelt and come climb scaffolding with me..( but if you do.. just say the word ;-)) With your help, I hope to make a real difference in the lives of a local family. My personal goal each year is $1,000.00...and thanks to you I have always exceeded that goal! The Women Build Team’s goal is $100,000. Any pledge amount you can sponsor will be greatly appreciated!
So...Thank you for helping to make a difference.
Love,
Melissa
