Matt and Mel's fundraising page
The enthusiasm and interest of our colleagues to do a half-marathon as an organization was contagious! We are excited to do our first half-marathon, and we see it as a chance to bond with colleagues, challenge ourselves physically and mentally (especially for Mel who has always said she can't run), and to work toward a goal as a couple. And, if we can raise some money to help people in need along the way, that's even better!
For those of you who are unfamiliar with World Vision, the organization does more than just sign up child sponsors. World Vision works to tackle the root causes of poverty by working with children, families, and their communities to provide things like clean water, health care, nutritious food, education, and economic opportunities. For more info, visit worldvision.org.
The money raised through Team World Vision will go toward caregivers who volunteer their time to care for their HIV- and AIDS-affected neighbors. These people selflessly travel long distances to feed, bathe, and show compassion to people living with HIV and AIDS and their families. Your donation will help WV give caregivers:
- Comprehensive training and follow-up
- A Caregiver Kit with medical supplies, soap, washcloths, flashlights, and a personal note of encouragement--written by volunteers in the U.S. who put together the kits
- A heavy-duty bike to facilitate local travel (since many caregivers have to otherwise walk everywhere), and ongoing maintenance
- Malaria prevention training and mosquito nets for vulnerable children
We know many of you already are committed to supporting World Vision or other worthy causes financially and with your time, and we thank you for being great examples of how to use your resources and time to help others!
