Maine Adaptive Sports & Recreation's mission is to promote year-round education and training for individuals with physical disabilities in order to develop skills and provide enjoyment through active recreation. Maine Adaptive (formerly Maine Handicapped Skiing), founded in 1982, provides lessons to hundreds of children and adults with physical disabilities, all free of charge, in alpine and nordic skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, paddling, golf and cycling. Maine Adaptive has over 390 volunteers who donate their time and expertise to make dreams come true by helping participants learn new skills, make great friends and develop self-confidence through their new-found abilities, all while having fun. Maine Adaptive is financed through the generous contributions to the annual Ski-A-Thon and through the incredible generosity of individuals, businesses, corporations, foundations and service organizations.
