For the Feral Cats of Grandview Island
Thanks for helping me get the Suffolk Humane Society's 1st Annual Mutt Strut off the ground!
As many of you know, my neighbor and I took care of a colony of 14 feral cats for 2 years. During that time, we neutered, vaccinated, eartipped, named and fed them all. After spending countless hours and dollars solving the growing feral cat problem for our entire island, a neighbor trapped and disposed of them without telling us. It took many weeks for us to figure out what happened and we were heartbroken to say the least.
Only three cats survived - two of which were brought inside and domesticated by my neighbor. The other has managed to stay unnoticed outside for many years since. (You go Lily!)
So, on June 1, I will walk in memory of our beloved ferals who kept the rodent population at bay and kept unsterilized and unvaccinated feral cats off of our island. To Jack, May, Pier One, Pier Two, Isabel, Jill, McCavity, Lighthouse, Silverbell & Wild Boy, we love you and miss you very much.
