Michael Brundage's Fundraising Page
Thank you for visiting my Personal Fundraising Page. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to make a contribution to our fundraising efforts. Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
I live in downtown Chicago and work in the western suburbs, about 25 miles west of my house. I have been making this hour plus (each way) commute for the past six years. For anyone familiar with Chicago traffic, you can understand this can be a frustrating drive! After doing some research late last summer, I realized that it was possible to bring my bike with me on our commuter train system in the morning and found a way to make the trek home by bicycle, which I have been doing so ever since. So far this year, I have ridden about 550 miles and have set a goal for the season of 1,854 miles. I chose this distance as it happens to be the exact distance from Chicago to San Fransisco, and I really like San Fransisco.
I have also recently joined the Board of Directors for Huntington's Disease Society of America, Illinois Chapter in an effort to volunteer for this very worthy cause. Although I am fortunate that my life has not been directly impacted by Huntington's Disease, I feel strongly in this cause and feel fortunate to be working with this amazing group of people, many of whom have lost loved ones or are caring for courageous people currently battling this disease.
How do these things go together? As my career is based in the commercial real estate aspect of the Long Term Care and Senior Housing industry, I also wanted to use this as an opportunity to raise awareness of what can be the one of the biggest challenges for those battling Huntingdon’s Disease, finding proper nursing home care. Only a handful of skilled nursing facilities currently accept Huntingdon’s patients, many of whom are in desperate need of care. If you are reading this and are a nursing home owner or otherwise involved in the Long Term Care industry and would like to learn more about the disease and how you can help, please feel free to contact me to discuss.
Here is where you come in! I am asking for support for this charity as well as additional motivation to keep up with my bicycling hobby. If you would like to pledge a single donation it would be greatly appreciated. Also, a "per mile" donation would be appreciated and a great way to keep motivated to ride each day. In order to achieve my goal, I will need to ride approximately 100 miles per week. If each of these miles translate into donations for this worthy cause, it will be that much more motivation to keep going.
Thanks for reading!
