I am proud to be a certified, level one adaptive ski instructor and also serve on the Board of Trustees with the Adaptive Sports Foundation (ASF) in Windham, NY. ASF provides children, adults, and soldiers with special needs the opportunity to ski and snowboard in the winter and kayak, bicycle, horseback ride, fly fish, water ski, and hike in the summer.
The disabilities challenging ASF students on a daily basis are varied and many. They range from traumatic brain injuries, amputation, autism spectrum disorders, down syndrome, mental retardation, paraplegia, etc.
ASF hosts six Support our Troops events annually. Our wounded warrior population tends to come to us with amputations, traumatic brain injuries, and spinal cord injuries. These events also include their spouses and children, so that we are providing needed care and services for the entire family unit. All Support our Troops events are totally self-funded.
Providing outdoor activity opportunities for children, adults, and soldiers with disabilities is a cause that is extremely close to my heart. The Adaptive Sports Foundation is a special place serving wonderful people. We are all God’s children. God has blessed me with the ability to do His work… “Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like the eagles..” Isaiah 40:31 Please help me continue to put smiles on their faces and have them all soar like eagles !!!
