Friedriech’s Ataxia Research Alliance

 Dear Friends,

My cousin Brian Mulvaney was diagnosed a few month ago with a debilitating disease known as Friedreich’s Ataxia (FDRA). Friedreich's ataxia (FRDA) is a rare, genetic, neurodegenerative, multi-system, life-shortening disorder. About one in 50,000 people in the U.S. have Friedreich's ataxia. Onset of symptoms is usually between the ages of 5 and 15, sometimes even earlier and sometimes significantly later as in Brian’s case. FA destroys the central nervous system, causing the afflicted to lose balance and fall down repeatedly and eventually need a wheelchair. FARA is supporting research that will improve the quality and length of life for those diagnosed with Friedreich's ataxia and will lead to treatments that eliminate its symptoms. Brian is 28 years old and is fighting everyday to stay out of a wheel chair. On May 4^th Brian on his three wheel cycle, along with approximately 15-20 family members and friends will cycle 40 mile through New York ’s Five Borough’s in hope to raise money to help find a cure for this debilitating disease.
