Michele Weyer's Cycle For Autism-Ride For Rachel
Hello Friends,
This charity ride is very near and dear to my heart. I approached Bailey’s last year to sponsor my idea of an indoor cycle ride to directly benefit a very special summer camp. We rode on May 4, 2008 and raised $15,000! Now, here we are again for the 2nd Annual Cycle for Autism.
My daughter Rachel attended this camp for the first time 2 years ago. Rachel is on the severe end of the autism spectrum. To try and explain what we have gone through over the past 11 years would take several novels. But when I came across Camp Care – one of the summer camp sessions of DOSA Camps, both mine and Rachel’s lives changed. For the first time, the proverbial umbilical cord was cut and Rachel was without her mom for the first time in her life for a whole week.
Trust me, it was harder on me than her but Rachel came home with a sense of independence and I realized that just because my daughter was autistic, doesn’t mean she can’t enjoy the same things other children do. Knowing Rachel is at a place where she is well taken care of and understood gave me a peace that I didn’t think possible.
Please help keep this one of a kind camp continue to succeed. DOSA is also looking to expand their program to offer after school care for special needs children. Trust me…there is NO SUCH program in Jacksonville today. 100% of your donations will go directly to DOSA and to a wonderful cause. Both Rachel and I thank you for your kindness and support to DOSA Camps for special needs children.
A special Thanks to my wonderful husband Tj and his two children - Chase and Morgan. They have been loving, kind and quite tolerant living with Autism
Lots of Love and Thanks,
Michele and Rachel
