Michelle Donovan's Fundraising Page
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
Huntington's Disease (HD) is a disease that affects my side of the family, the McNichols. I am doing this walk so that more research can be done to treat and cure HD. My dad, Buzz, has this disease and is beginning to see some of the devastating effects of HD. There is no treatment or cure for HD. I also have a sister that has tested positive for the HD gene. This means that she will develop the disease at some point in her lifetime and that each of her children has a 50% chance of also having the disease.
For those of you not familiar with Huntington's Disease, it is a hereditary, degenerative brain disorder for which at present, has no effective treatment or cure. HD slowly diminishes the affected individual's ability to walk, think, talk, and reason. HD is now recognized as one of the more common genetic disorders, affecting males and females and crosses all ethnic and racial boundaries. Each child of a person with HD has a 50/50 chance of inheriting the fatal gene. Everyone who carries the gene will develop the disease. At present there is no cure.
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
