MYASTHENIA GRAVIS ASSOCIATION

2012 Greater KC Myasthenia Gravis Awareness Walk, Run & Roll For Awareness

Michelle Douglass's Page

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!

Myasthenia Gravis is an autoimmune, neuromuscular disease which is manageable through various treatments, but is not curable. The prevalence of MG in the United States is estimated to be about 20 out of 100,000. Symptoms include fatigue, droopy eyelids, double vision, and difficulty smiling, speaking, swallowing, and breathing.

The Myasthenia Gravis Association (MGA) is dedicated to improving the quality of life for those who are affected by this autoimmune, neuromuscular disease through awareness, education, and member services.

The MGA of Kansas City is a nonprofit, United Way agency that offers a variety of services to MG patients and their caregivers. The MGA works with several neurologists in the greater Kansas City area to provide clinical diagnosis and treatments. We also provide awareness activities, education and advocacy, patient support group meetings, and a quarterly newsletter.

Our programs are sustained through fundraisers and membership drives and with the help of our volunteers.

As most of you know I have MG and have had it since December of 2006. It has become much more managable but I still struggle with it frequently. I have learned so much from the MGA and met many people who have listened, shared, and comforted me in hard times. I am so excited to be doing my 2nd walk and look forward to donating an even larger goal than last year!

Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
