Harry's Cycling Crusaders Rock the 2009 GABR!
We're back in 2009 and ready to pedal for dollars!
I would like to tell you Harry's story and how the Farnsworth family got involved with the GABR. Harry was born with the ambilical cord wrapped around his neck and went without oxygen for a time. Harry's apgar score was zero, which we did not find out until years later. Harry was in the NICU for five days and when he came home we were happy and blessed that everything was fine.
As a mother I began to worry and question when Harry didn't seem to be able to walk at the appropriate age and he would shuffle around on his little bunns like a crab! For some it was cute, but for me I knew deep down that something wasn't right. I questioned our family dr. and got no where...typical response "You worry too much." "He'll be fine." etc, etc.
I took him to a new peditrician, Dr. Kumar and after he reviewed Harry's file and spoke with me, had it figured it out in about 15 minutes: Harry had a mild form of cerebral palsy. We were devastated, becuase Harry was almost 5 years old. We felt so guilty that we didn't question it and get another opinion before. But at least Dr. Kumar was on our side and got the ball rolling and many of questions were soon answered.
Harry began therapies at MedCenter One which included Speech, Physical and Occupational Therapy. We were so blessed to have so many wonderful therapists and Dr.'s on our side and helping Harry to improve his strength, balance and coordination.
Our story is a very lucky one, becuase Harry's cp is mild and if you didn't know his background, you would probably never suspect a problem. But when I would see all the beautiful children that were working so hard to overcome their obstacles, it made me want to help them in any way possible.
So now we raise money for families that really need MedCenter One's services and all that they can provide. Please help us reach our goal of $5000.00 this year! Each year we have tried to out do ourselves and we have!
Thanks so much! Please pass this email along to any friend that might be interested in donating to the 2009 GABR! Together we can make life better for a special child.
