In October 2012, Jeff and I will embark on a journey to Nepal.  We will join a group of fellow humanitarians and set out on a challenging 2 day hike up Mt Bigu.  When we reach the top, we will stay in a small villiage and teach English and basic life skills to the adults and children.  We will also offer our services to work in their gardens and make minor repairs to their schools and buildings.

In addition to helping the villagers on Mt Bigu, our trip will help raise money and awareness for third world children with Aids - through the American Foundation for Children with Aids (AFCA)

Why did we decide to use Climb Up as a fund and awareness raiser for AFCA's programs?  The idea is simple - we also wanted to do something that symbolizes the fight against pediatric AIDS and climbing came to mind as it involves hard effort but rewarding results.
 
Like climbing, working against AIDS can be an individual endeavor that is complemented by the work of so many others.  While solitary at times, it is with the help of many that we can move forward against this devastating virus. 

We sometimes take two steps forward and one step back with the work we do.  We have to search for a new route, for a new and better way to help the little ones who are infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.  So, we plan our route, we strategize, we talk with others, and we implement a plan.  But the entire time, our eyes are on the top of the mountain, knowing that one day we will halt this virus and that one day, children will be born free of it. 
 
Climbing just seemed to fit.  So, we climb up so kids can grow up.  We climb in order that they can dream and hope and be.
