Help me Reach my Goal!!!
Hello and welcome to my Firstgiving Fundraising Page! This is my 8th year raising funds for NF research.
This is a very special year as my son Andrés had his first NF-related surgery this June. The NF tumor was cancerous, something that happens in only about 10% of NF cases. Andrés is having radiation therapy, which will be followed by a second surgery. More radiation and chemotherapy treatment may follow.
I am asking for your financial support. My commitment is to ride 80 miles along Cape Cod, MA – rain or shine - in the 3rd Annual Friends Ride for Neurofibromatosis on Saturday, September 15, 2007.
While NF is rarely heard of, it is more prevalent than cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy, and Huntington's disease combined. NF is a genetic disorder that can cause uncontrolled tumor growth on any nerve, at anytime. Half of all NF cases are new mutations, meaning that they are not found in the sufferer’s family. NF affects all races, ethnic groups and sexes equally. See www.nfincne.org for more information about NF.
Funds are earmarked for the Harvard Center for NF and Allied Disorders (www.cnfad.org). Harvard’s efforts may bring alternative treatments to tumors such as Andrés now has. The first human alternative treatments trials are now on, after 25 years of scientific research! Federal government funding for NF research has been cut by over 50% in the past two years. It is not the time to slow down!
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to make a contribution to our fundraising efforts. A donation of any amount is very much appreciated!
