Mike Mahlstedt's Ironman Texas Page
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
I appreciate your interest in learning more about my Ironman event and about Cherish Our Children International - COCI, whose mission is to develop and fund projects and programs that provide a brighter future for the world's most vulnerable children.
On May 21, 2011 I competed in the Texas Ironman Triathlon in honor of the children COCI serves. The event consists of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride, and 26.2 mile run. While this event is challenging, it pails in comparison to what children in vulnerable situations have had to endure.
Since its inception in 1993, COCI has focused on providing children opportunities that they would not otherwise have. COCI supports children in Houston and around the world; therefore I have decided that COCI children are my Reason2Race in the Ironman Triathlon.
I'm racing for children like Devon from Houston (See a video on Deveon here). A child of incarcerated parents, Devon could have easily "fallen through the cracks" and gone down a similar unproductive path. Instead, Devon has beaten the odds and graduated from LSU because of support he has received from COCI through the No More Victims, Inc program.
I'm racing for Kennedy from Kenya who was orphaned at the age of 10 and had suffered many years from malnutrition, parasites and fungus infections. Kennedy is now living at COCI's Children First compound and is a healthy active young boy who loves to read and dreams of someday becoming a doctor.
Each one of us has the ability to impact a child's life. I'm priviledged to have my racing endeavors make a difference for many.
I invite you to join me in supporting these children. You can make a donation here. Any amount would be great: $50, $100 or other, or you can even choose these children as your Reason2Race by joining Team COCI.
Thank you for your support!
This website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts. Don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
