We are at it again and have entered our 21-year-old farm runabout, 'Twentitoo', a Lada Niva, in this our 19th Rhino Charge.  If the event can raise enough money this time round we will be able to finish the fence - all 400 kms of it - by the end of the year.  Then Mike and I will retire from active competition (as we had always said that we would once the fence is completed) and assist in the running of the event so that a new generation of fund raisers can find the money for the maintenance of the fence for the future - and maybe even put up more fences around other delicate environmental areas that need protection.

This fence is an enormous achievement by ordinary people who are keen to try and protect the environment, the wildlife, the natural habitat, the water towers and the livelihoods of the local people of the Aberdare Mountain Range.  What has been achieved is truely amazing and a first anywhere in the world.

Each year as we complete more of the fence so we are getting more assistance from the people who live on the edge of the forest as they benefit from not having the wildlife raiding their crops.  And, because they no longer have a problem with the wild animals they no longer feel the need to kill them.  So this is a win win situation all round.
