Mildred Rivera's Fundraising Page
We, as a family minus daddy because he unfortunately has to work, are participating in The Autism Society of America - Northern Virginia's 6th Annual Walk for Autism on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at the Prince William County Fairgrounds in Manassas, Virginia.
The event funds mini-grants to families of children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders to help cover the costs of various Autism treatments which is minimally covered by health insurances if at all. Unfortunately many children go without therapy because of the extreme cost to their family.
Autism Spectrum Disorders are diagnosed in 1 in 100 children affecting four times as many boys as girls. Autism does not discriminate by geography, class or ethnicity. A child is diagnosed every 20 minutes.
Autism is the fastest growing serious developmental disability in the world. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have called Autism a national public health crisis whose cause and cure remain unknown. More children will be diagnosed with Autism this year than with pediatric diabetes, cancer and AIDS combined.
Although we have had some recent bumps in the road in our journey with Autism, we have made some wonderful and exciting gains through continued therapies and treatments, dedicated and caring past and present teachers, school staff, therapists and medical professionals, and most especially because of your prayers on our behalf.
We understand that it has been difficult for many in this economy, so if you are unable to contribute, please continue to pray for us and all those affected by Autism.
Thank you in advance for your generosity, support and prayers!
Love,
Christian and Brandon (and our mom, Mildred) Rivera
