Miranda's Mission
Dear Family and Friends,
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. It’s time to get out your walking shoes out and join for the Great Steps for Neurofibromatosis Walk! The event consists of an easy one mile walk, snacks and raffle prizes!
I have created this page to help raise awareness about Neurofibromatosis (“NF”) causes tumors to form on the nerves anywhere in the body at any time. NF is a progressive disorder that affects all races and both sexes equally. Currently there is no cure or effective treatment. There is Type 1 or 2 of Neurofibromatosis. Type 2 is what I have and it can cause deafness, blindness, and balance problems. Either Type of NF can cause facial paralysis, but it is most common with Type 2.
NF took my hearing in 1997, barely before turning 16. Being a teenager is tough enough, but add trying to cope in a different world isn't always easy. I have had a few other surgeries since, but I believe that my faith in God and encouraging family and friends are what get me through these trying times.
This is my frist year participating in raising funds for NF Midwest. I believe we can make a difference and there will be a cure. I, for one, am tired of having surgery as the only option to take away the pain we all live with.
If you are unable to make it the day of the NF walk, you can still support our team by donating here.
Many thanks for your generosity. Please forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate, too!
Help us walk for a cure!!
Sincerely,
Miranda Owens
