Alabama Autism Walk 2012- For Isaac
On April 16, 2003 my son Isaac was diagnosed with Asperger's (a form of Autism). Although it was one of the most terrifying moments of my life, I have been amazed at how God has used this little life to bless so many people! Isaac is now 11 years old:) He is a videogamer, silly face maker, big brother, Marvel Comic genius, and the most loving and funny kid I know....I'm so thankful he is mine! Kids with autism just want to be like every other kid...loved for just who they are! You can't see autism or catch it and there is no cure. It is a neurological disorder that effects communication, fine motor, and social skills. Autism is a spectrum disorder so each of these children are uniquely and wonderfully made.
The diagnosis of an autistic child can be devastating to a family. 1 in 110 children are diagnosed every year. Most parents are unprepared, full of anxiety and worry, and have no idea where to start. When Isaac was diagnosed we were told not to have any expectations, just to try and provide him with the best services that we could...wait....and see. 80% of parents who have a child diagnosed with Autism divorce within the first year of diagnosis....these families need your support! That is why donating to the Autism Society of Alabama is such an important gift. They provide families with encouragement, support, classes, therapy, and counseling to help their children receive the best help possible.
Isaac is our miracle! He continues to prove those doctor's wrong with the help of our Lord:) He rises to every challenge and although we have hard days, he works diligently everyday to be his best! Asperger's isn't a word that we whisper at our house, but that we embrace....It is part of who Isaac is and Isaac is INCREDIBLE! Praise God for His marvelous works!
Thank you so much for your support and please join us as we walk in honor of our son Isaac!
Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." Matthew 19:26
