Intermountain Planned Parenthood, Inc.

On June 13th, 2011 Montana mountaineers; Rusty Willis, Stan Price, Daniel Burson and Peter Ramos went to climb Canada's highest peak, Mt. Logan (19,551ft). In addition to raising awareness for Planned Parenthood of Montana (PPMT), they also tried to climb the Hummingbird Ridge. This ridge hasn't seen a second ascent since 1945. Unfortunately due to extremely warm temperatures, sloppy snow conditions and wet feet this ridge didn't see a second ascent.

The team did successfully walk where no man has walked before! After the Hummingbird, they walked over to an un-attempted ridge. They were successful at climbing this technical rock and snow ridge until it connected to an already existing route called Hubsew Ridge. From this point the team could have continued on towards the summit, but one member’s boots kept filling with water from the sloppy wet snow pack. At this point the team turned around and started their everlasting descent towards the glacier below. After avoiding rock fall, avalanches, seracs and cravasses they made it safely back to base camp.

Find out more about the team’s adventures on Mt. Logan at “Climbing Mountains for Planned Parenthood of Montana,” on September 24. This slideshow and fundraiser will take place at 7 pm at the Bozeman Holiday Inn and will wrap up fundraising efforts in connection with the Mt. Logan climb.

Attendees will have a chance to meet the climbing team, and Stacy James, PPMT President & CEO, will be present to visit with attendees and provide more information on the organization. The evening will also feature desserts and coffee, a no-host bar, and a raffle and door prizes with items donated from local businesses. All proceeds go directly to PPMT. Below in more info about PPMT.

· Mission - to ensure the freedom of all people to manage their own sexual and reproductive health by providing the highest quality health care, medically accurate education and advocacy for individual rights.

· Montana’s largest provider of family planning services. Founded in 1969, the organization includes five clinics (Billings [2], Great Falls, Helena, and Missoula) and five rural outreach sites (Colstrip, Forsyth, Plentywood, Poplar and Wolf Point).

· Provides both general health care services (cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes screening, flu vaccinations, and so forth) and reproductive health (STI testing, breast and annual exams, and contraception)

· During Montana’s past legislative session, family planning was eliminated from the state’s budget, resulting in a loss of income for PPMT and other Montana family planning clinics. As a result, patient services and contraceptive options will decrease while patient fees will increase.

Your support is needed because each year thousands of Montanans rely on PPMT for affordable services and information that empowers them to take control of their health. PPMT provides critical care on a sliding-fee scale and for many individuals, this is the only medical care they received each year. 95% of PPMT’s services are preventative and this basic health care is essential to give the tools needed to plan for when they have a family, and to protect and support the families they do have.

Help protect the children, women and men in Montana. Act now and support these local mountaineers and their effort to raise awareness. Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
