Myrna Rios's for "2009 Vital Alliance Donate Life Run/Walk"
Hello my family and friends, thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
I know that alot of you have already recieved my request for help in the light the night event that I am doing this same day Saturday October 24, 2009.This year was the first time that I heard about this walk (Donate Life 5K Run/Walk) and I knew that I would have to do this every year in my son's memory. I myself being a kidney donor know the importance and the meaning of being able to save someone's life/providing a better quality of life. I was able to help my mother with my kidney and she has been doing very well since our operation in 1998.
As most of you know we lost our Josh on December 20, 2007 at the age of 20 in a tragic car accident. Joshua was our first born he began bringing us joy from the moment that we found out he was coming into our lives. He was born on February 9, 1987 and he weighed 8lbs 12oz. He attended De Zavala Elementary, TafollaMiddle School and Graduated from EdisonHigh School. Joshua played a wide range of sports. His favorite sport was baseball. At Edison he was a magnet student for the health profession and before he graduated he received his CNA certification. He went on to fulfill one of his dreams of moving away and attending TexasStateUniversity. Josh always said that he wanted to make a difference in this word. We believe that he did and with his passing we learned that he impacted so many people in so many different ways. He was a great son that always made us so proud. He was so funny, loud and his smile just lit up any room. He was an awesome brother and his sibling just adored him. We learned that he was a good friend to so many and he was so loved. In my son's short 20 years of life he touched more people than we could have in two life times. Josh was unique and he lived his life to the fullest. He got to experience life just the way he wanted too. Why his time came so soon is a question that can never be answered. I like to believe that God had a greater and better plan for him. We miss him every single day. Sometimes it feels as if he is just away at college. Josh has left us so many wonderful memories and there is not one day that he is not thought of. When we were approached about the donation, we didn't immediately say yes. His Dad and I discussed it and we came to the conclusion that choosing to donate would be just one other way for him to make a difference, this time in someone else’s life. It was the hardest decision that we have ever made in our lives. Our pain was and is very profound, but I know that two sets of parents out there have a child that is now able to see due to the donation of Joshua's corneas. We were also informed that with the tissue donation he would be helping over 50 other people. Our son helped and made a difference in someone's life even after his death. I as his mother take comfort in knowing that my beautiful baby boy lives on not only in my heart but he has made life easier for someone in need. Josh had a beautiful smile and he had great big dreams, so our team name is Joshua's Dream Team. His memory and his dreams will never die.
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
Many thanks for your support and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
Love, Myrna S. Rios
