Team Marsalli 3rd Annual Stepping Out to Cure Scleroderma
Dear Family & Friends,
I thank you for visiting my Personal Fundraising Page, where I have the opportunity to personally raise funds to help find a cure for this horrible disease. This is our 3rd Annual Walk/Run in San Jose. If you can't participate by joining my team and walking, running or participating in the silent auction, you can still support the cause. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to make a contribution to my fundraising efforts. Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
I would love to have you join my team on Sunday, May 6th! Even though the weather was bad last year, my children walked, along with my granddaughter and my son's dog, Miles. Many of you who couldn't walk still supported me with a donation and I am truly appreciative and very grateful! Every donation, large or small, brings us closer to a cure.
It is hard to believe I have had this disease for 8 years now. I have both good and bad days. Luckily, so far more good than bad! Scleroderma is a disease with many different manifestations. It is a chronic, often progressive autoimmune disease in which the body's immune system attacks its own tissue. The disease, which literally means "hard skin", can cause thickening and tightening of the skin as well as serious damage to internal organs. It occurs 3 to 4 times more often in women than men, and affects children as well. 15% of people with this disease develop an aggressive form of diffuse systemic sclerosis, a very severe and life threatening manifestation. Regardless of the form, it is at best a life changing diagnosis with no known cause or cure and at worst one which will take a life within a few years.
The walk/run is being held on May 6, 2012, at Almaden Lake Park in San Jose. Registration begins at 8am and the walking/running starts at 9am. I would love to have you join TEAM MARSALLI, but if you can't make it please consider making a contribution to the cure for Scleroderma.
