Thank you for visiting my Personal Fundraising Page where I have a chance to personally raise funds to help find a cure for this horrible disease. You can learn more about this event at www.scleroderma.org/chapter/no_calif, and choose "2nd Annual...Walk/Run". If you cannot participate by joining the team and walking, running or participating in the silent auction, you can still donate directly to the cause. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to make a contribution to my fundraising efforts. Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
If you'd like to join my team, please click "Team" tab above and then "Get Started". Hope you can join us on May 15th, or if not that you can join us by setting up your own page and spreading the word!
Most of you now know that I have been fighting this debilitating disease for the past seven years. It is a disease that has many different manifestations. It has taken me quite awhile to admit that I have the disease, let alone talk about it. If there is ever going to be a cure, the disease needs to become public to help raise awareness.
Scleroderma is a chronic, often progressive autoimmune disease in which the body's immune system attacks its own tissue. The disease, which literally means "hard skin", can cause thickening and tightening of the skin as well as serious damage to internal organs. It occurs 3 to 4 times more often in women than men, and affects children. 15% of people with this disease develop an aggressive form of diffuse systemic sclerosis, a very severe & life threatening manisfestation. Regardless of the form, it is at best a life changing diagnosis with no known cause or cure and at worst one which will take a life within a few years.

There is good quality research happening but it takes substantial amounts of money to fund this research. Scleroderma is not as well known as some of the other autoimmune diseases (e.g. AIDS, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and Lupus), and therefore needs to reach out for that fundraising through direct channels like this.
I am still hoping I will be able to actually walk this year as I had my troublesome knee replaced last July, however, there have been some issues recently and I am not sure I can actually do the walk, but I will be at the event cheering on everyone who joins my team. I thank God that I am still well enough to help raise funds for a cure. It only takes a few large donations to reach a goal, but more likely it will be reached with many smaller donations, so please know that literally any amount you can add will be GREATLY appreciated! Thank you in advance!
If you can join me in walking/running either 2 miles or a timed 10k, cheering on the walkers and runners, or even participating in an onsite silent auction and raising funds that way please join Team Marsalli through this website. It kicks off with registration at 8 a.m. and walking/running starting at 9 a.m., Sunday, May 15, 2011, at Almaden Lake Park in San Jose. The link "Join This Team" is at the top right portion of this page under the fundraising meter.
