LIFELINE CHRISTIAN MISSION

"I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me."

Matt  25:40

MARATHON UPDATE:

And What an Event it was!!!

Well... Here it is 24 hours after my marathon and I wanted to share with you my results of the big day!  I'm 2 toenails down, 4 blisters gained and overwhelmed by God's grace in always being so faithful. I finished in record time setting a new PR for myself of 3:49:22. I came 23rd out of 450 in my catagory and once again gained a Boston qualifier time. God is so faithful!! He gave me strength when I needed it the most and according to comments on the course, I planted some seeds for God with the visual sign on my back.

The day began with a cool crisp 45 degrees, clear and lovely and it turned into rain at mile 17. By mile 23 my feet were soaked and the rain was pouring off my hat...but...I loved it all. It cooled and calmed me as silly as it all sounds. I believe the spectators were more bothered by it than the runners. My husband Kelly met me at mile 23 and ran me (or should I say...pushed me!) into the finish. I was more upset that I missed hearing the brass band that played two blocks from the finish line so we walked back and cheered to others coming into the finish. Then, on the street corner  in downtown Portland, my husband and I danced all by ourselves to that big band, a waltz for the whole world to see.

So...my next mission you might ask? I'm already registered to run Boston in April 2009. I wonder if there are any brass bands at the finish line?

Remember that this site will be active for further donations until the first part of December. For all of you that have been so faithful in your support of Lifeline Christian Mission and your prayers to date, I want to thank you. God has been so faithful. He ALWAYS is!

On October 5th,2008 I will be running the Portland Marathon for a third time. Nothing in my training can compare to the importance of nutrition and without food my goal of completing a marathon successfully would be hopeless. My favorite pre-race and long run meal consists of peanut butter, oatmeal and soy milk (chocolate of course!)! When I prayed on what I really wanted to accomplish this year, my mission became clear that  God wanted me to raise enough funds for LIFELINE CHRISTIAN MISSION  to send a container of peanut butter (75,000 jars)  to Haiti. Each year Lifeline raises funds for this cause because of peanut butters high nutritious value. Please look at the U-Tube video posted to the left  if you would like to see a daily reality that people in Haiti perservere.

Just a few short years ago the cost to send a container was approx. $3500. The way economic conditions are today, that cost has climbed to $7000.

How is the peanut butter used you might ask?

  1. 400 toddlers receive a weekly supply
  2. 400 plus malnourished pregnant and anemic women receive it at a clinic
  3. 50 plus infants (old enough to eat it) receive it each week
  4. 75 jars are given to Lovelink Children's Home each month
  5. 100 plus jars are given out to victims of hurricanes through Lifeline's Hurricane relief program
  6. 250 plus families receive peanut butter each week in the family nutrition programs
  7. Several hundred jars are given out quarterly to very needy children in Lifeline schools
  8. Lifeline shares peanut butter with other missions

Take an interactive marathon challenge and see the course.
