Nathan Smitherman's Fundraising Page
Hello Everyone,
For those of you who have not had the privledge of knowing Miss Cara Conn let me tell you a little about her. Cara was born June 22, 2008 to her wonderful parents Pat and Amy. Cara was born with Down Syndrome and a known heart defect that is often common in children with Down Syndrome. As early as a few months after birth Cara began attending The Bell Center for early intervention. The Bell Center provides invaluble programs to assist children that are at risk for developmental delay. The therapy and services provided to Cara and other children are unparalled.
2010 has been an amazing year for Miss Cara! This past March, only weeks after the marathon, Cara underwent open heart surgery to repair a defect she had since birth. Thankfully our prayers were answered and the wonderful Doctors at UAB were successful. Since the surgery Cara's heart is able to fully support her growing body, which means her parents now have a hard time keeping up with her. Thanks to your donations to the Bell Center, Cara's continued developmental improvements are more tangible than ever. The 2011 Mercedes Marathon will be the third year I have the humbling experince of running for Cara. This year I will participate in the half-marathon run in order to raise funds for the Bell Center in Cara's name. I hope you will consider donating to this wonderful cause. Thanks to all who have donated in the past!
