Jersualem Marathon 2011
Hi everyone! Big News! We’re both running in Israel this coming March 2011 to help raise money for the Baby Alex Foundation, a non-profit that focuses on providing grants for pediatric brain injury research. I'm scheduled to run the first Jerusalem Marathon on March 25th and my lovely fiancee Lisa will be running a 10K on the same day! We would love your help in supporting this important cause. The Baby Alex Foundation was founded and is run by Erik Skulte and Nicole (Nicky) Schmidt. Lisa and Nicky are close friends from Dartmouth College. Lisa is a head injury survivor and, almost 20 years after her injury, supports improving research and care for this condition.
In 2007, Erik and Nicky, expecting the birth of their first child suffered a terrible scare. Their baby boy, Alex, was born at 26 weeks gestation after Nicky suffered an accident. Weighing just 1 pound, 15 ounces when he was born, Baby Alex was immediately facing an uphill battle, not least of which was severe brain damage from his premature birth. Erik and Nicky did what every other parent would, simply everything, but information was vague and questions were not easily answered. Dissatisfied with the information available on pediatric brain injuries, Erik and Nicky established The Baby Alex Foundation in 2008 to raise funds and provide grants for pediatric brain injury research.
Baby Alex will celebrate his fourth birthday next September. To read more about Baby Alex’s story and The Foundation, visit:
