Swim To Empower-Eleuthera Expedition '07
Thank you for visiting the fundraising page for the Eleuthera Expedition 2007 in support of Swim To Empower!
Also check out my expedition website at www.nellayoung.com -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
Mission:
I plan to swim from Powell Point to Lighthouse Beach along the coast of Eleuthera in the Bahamas. The distance is approximately 21 miles. I plan to complete the expedition in 4 to 6 days, camping on beaches each night.
Purpose:
Once I decided to do a solo swim expedition on Eleuthera (how I decided is another story), I contacted friends from the Island School on Cape Eleuthera, where I worked from 2000-2003. They told me about two Island School Alumni who started Swim To Empower, an organization that teaches residents of coastal communities to swim. (See below for more info about Swim to Empower and The Island School). It was an obvious match! I am so excited to be helping out a wonderful, well-run, inspiring organization, and I hope you will too!
ABOUT SWIM TO EMPOWER
Swim to Empower aims to empower individuals in coastal communities by teaching them swimming, first aid, and safety skills. Individuals feel empowered by feeling safe while fully experiencing their immediate surroundings. When individuals are able to experience the marine ecosystems in their local waters, communities realize the need for stewardship.
ABOUT THE ISLAND SCHOOL
The Island School is founded on the belief that young people, given the right tools, can build anything.
The Island School is much more than a place of learning. Students are active participants in the educational process; students have to think like scientists, cultural historians, and teachers. Students are forced beyond the quest for a grade - they face real problems and challenges in and out of class.

Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
