An author, with an experiment...
The dire situation in Sudan has been dubbed “the largest humanitarian crisis in the world” by the United Nations Secretary-General.  English philosopher Edmund Burke used to say, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”
In the past few years in Sudan, as many as 400,000 people have been killed. Another 2.5 million have been driven from their homes and into the dangerous territory of pillaging militias. The threat of torture, murder and malnutrition pursue the people of Darfur wherever they flee. Atrocities continue to be committed with the Janjaweed Militia viciously infiltrating African villages, raping and killing every woman and child they can reach!
You don't have to be on par with Bill Gates or the other 0.9% of American multi-millionaires to make a difference.  We've all heard that for only a few dollars a day, you could... help a child, feed a family, empower a village, etc.
I want to know if this cliche is in fact, true.  And so,  I'm committed to cutting a few small things out of my daily life in an effort to make measurable difference in Sudan.  I'll bypass the magazine rack every now and then, I'll walk instead of drive and I'll forego my morning latte (on occassion).  I believe modest donations make a difference - when we all work together.
I will gladly give up a few small things - to help raise funds and awareness for Darfur. Will you?
Your gift will help fund crucial awareness and advocacy programs that play a critical role in building the political pressure needed to end the crisis in Sudan.
