Animals Deserving of Proper Treatment

16th ANNUAL “MAKIN' STRIDES FOR STRAYS" WALKATHON Naperville,  Illinois

Nicole Flack's Fundraising Page

Hi! This is the one big fundraiser of the year for the shelter I volunteer at. I don't usually ask for donations, but this means a lot to me so I make an exception. ADOPT saves thousands of animals, and works with some difficult situations that other shelters wouldn't. They rescue dogs and cats that are on their last days. They take in sick and injured animals and pay to take care of them. We have some difficult behavioral cases that special trainers or situations have been set up to take care of. ADOPT just opened a low-cost spay and neuter clinic. We have a new director who is awesome and really helping what was already a great shelter become even greater. Please help support a cause that really does make a difference. THANK YOU!!

The picture here is of Pounce. He is a perfect example of the lengths to which this shelter will go to help animals. He was at the shelter for about a year. He is a Belgian Malinois, a very intelligent and active breed that thrives on having a job to do. They are often used as police or search dogs. I used to play soccer with him and we became extremely bonded. The problem was twofold: one, he was going crazy from being caged up and not having enough physical and mental activity. Two, he was dog aggressive and got worse over time. You can't adopt a dog like this to just anyone. In desperation I posted him on the Belgian Malinois rescue site, hoping someone familiar with the breed would be willing to work with him. At the same time, ADOPT paid to send him to a boarding facility and boot camp. Within days he was part of a pack of dogs. The trainer offered to keep him there and work with whoever potentially adopted him. A home soon came forward...in North Carolina! A family had just lost their Maliois. After interviews and reference checks, Rich, ADOPT's director, drove Pounce down the N.C. himself. The home and family were incredible, and they had a girl Malinois! Pounce is now living the life with a sister and family who love him to no end. With time, patience, and effort, ADOPT found the perfect situation for a difficult, but extremely loving and loyal pooch.
