Autism is something that is very close to my heart. In June of 2008 I started working with a family in West Warwick with two boys who have autism. I have had the opportunity to work with both boys one-on-one and witness their daily triumphs and struggles. I have also had the chance to meet the amazing people in their lives. Over the past year and a half I truly have found meaning behind the quote "It takes a village to raise a child." Not only do those who have autism need their families for support, but they also need outside resources. Personal Assistance Services and Supports (PASS) workers, various therapists, teachers and librarians all play important roles in their lives.
In 2008 I spent my birthday at Colt State Park in Bristol for the Autism Speaks Walk. It was a great way to spend the day and it helped me get a lot of donations! I also did the 7th Annual Imagine Walk for Autism in April of 2009.
On April 25, 2010 I will be participating in the 8th Annual Imagine Walk for Autism at Goddard State Park. This even helps raise funding to help families receive support, services and training. It also helps to raise awareness for autism.
I'm looking forward to it and hopefully I will reach my fundraiser goal of $500. Please donate!
