Nicole “Nicki” Barnett was a native of Waukegan, IL and graduated from Waukegan High School in 1996. A member of the National Honor Society, band, badminton and tennis teams, she was a bright individual who seemed to have a great future in front of her. After graduating from high school she attended the College of Lake County for two years where she earned her Associates Degree. Following CLC she went on to Northern Illinois University where she graduated in 2000 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science. Nicki then accepted a position at Allegiance Healthcare.
Nicki was diagnosed with melanoma skin cancer in the spring of 2001. It started with a mole on her arm that she was born with, but then quickly spread into her lymph nodes. She had a very aggressive form of melanoma and by the end of the year she was diagnosed as stage IV. Nicki passed away on January 14, 2002 surrounded by family and friends. Nicki was only 23 years old.
2012 marks the 10-year anniversary of Nicki’s passing. Nicki is someone who is deeply missed and will never be forgotten. “A Night for Nicki” is a benefit to raise awareness of melanoma and funds to be donated to skin cancer research. It will be held at the Cubby Bear North on January 14, 2012. All proceeds from this event will be donated to the Melanoma Research Foundation (www.melanoma.org) in memory of Nicki. The purchase of a ticket to this event with get you a buffet dinner, non-alcoholic drinks and the chance to participate in a silent auction and/or 50/50 raffle.

Advanced tickets must be purchased prior to Saturday, January 14th. Tickets purchased on January 14th, either in person or online, will be the full price of $35.
