It’s that time of year again!! “Walk for the Animals” is The Humane Society of Broward County’s largest fundraiser and it’s just around the corner! And we need your help!
In 2008, over 4000 animal lovers and their dogs helped raise over $440,000! These funds not only help the shelter run on a day to day basis but allowed staff members to assist with 2 huge puppy mill busts in VA and TN. They were able to take in 100s of animals that had no where else to go.
This year I am walking for Milo, my 3 year old Shih-tzu that I adopted from the shelter just over a year ago. Milo spent the first 2 years of his life with a family that had “no time” for him anymore and gave up on him. After obviously being neglected, he was dropped off at the shelter, which was probably the best day of his life….because now he has an amazing home, owner, and big brother, Miller!! :)
Unfortunately not all animals are as lucky as Milo. As times have gotten tough, unfortunately, they’ve gotten much worse for 100s of animals that were also once “pets”. It is happening far too often now where dogs and cats are left to fend for themselves in abandoned homes, or are dropped off in random neighborhoods, or even worse! Luckily, if they are fortunate enough to have survived these hardships, when these animals are found, they are often brought to the HSBC where they are given the chance of a new (and better) life!
The HSBC takes in anywhere between 300-400 animals EVERY week.
They receive NO government funding. The shelter relies 100% on private donations and special fundraising events such as the Walk for the Animals.
Thank you to all of those that helped by donating last year!! It would be fantastic if you could dig deep and help again! And for those of you that haven’t donated in the past, ANY amount is SO helpful and really does make a difference! EVERY dollar counts!! Remember, your donation is tax deductible.
The animals are counting on you!
Thank you so much for your support!
Love always,
Nikki, Miller, and Milo!
