Doctors Without Borders
Help Support Life-Saving Work in Haiti
On January 12th 2010 a 7.0 earthquake hit Haiti's capital, Port-Au-Prince and caused massive devastation to the city. The disaster destroyed thousands of buildings and has caused more than 250,000 fatalities. The death toll is rising as Haitians are faced with a lack of food, clean water, medical care and the spread of disease.
There are many amazing international organizations collecting funds to assist Haiti's recovery. Doctors Without Borders is one of those, and one whose operating practices are incredibly efficient. With very little administrative overhead - 90% of funds raised go straight to direct services of those in need of immediate, life saving medical care. They do not let politics or poverty stand in the way of immediate care to those in need. Currently, more than 700 staff members are on the ground in Haiti, including Doctors, Nurses, Epidemiologists, Mental Health Professionals, Radiologists and Surgeons.
In Haiti, Doctors Without Borders continues to focus on providing medical services in hospitals and clinics but has set-up tents as needed across the region and is constantly adapting their services as conditions change.
Immediately following the Earthquake, Doctors Without Borders focused on treating critical crush injuries and performed life-saving amputations. Such operations require high levels of post-op care to avoid death-causing infections such as Tetanus, Cholera, and Gangrene. There is now a massive effort to treat broken bones, diarrhea and fevers, which if left untreated can lead to the rapid spread of disease and death. These efforts are both widespread and long-term.
Yoga One pledges to do all we can to help the victims of this disaster. We have a goal of raising $1,000 and we can achieve this with your help! Please donate any amount you can. Also, Steve will host a donation class on Friday, February 12th at 5:30 to contribute to our fund-raising goal.
Thank you for sharing your love and good fortune,
Yoga One
