Layla's story is a story of survival. Within the first two weeks of being in NYCSR's care, she nearly died of dehydration, gave birth to six stillborn puppies, underwent multiple tests to determine what was making her so sick, suffered a ruptured intestine, survived emergency surgery, and had a blood transfusion.
Incredibly, life is looking up for this young Shiba though. She was released from the hospital and went into a loving foster home on July 23. After a couple more crashes and ER visits, she's finally on the mend on the healing really well!
NYCSR needs your help now that we've helped Layla. Several years back, we had to halt intake for awhile because medical expenses for our foster dogs had gotten too far ahead of our income from donations. Donations were hard to come by then and many of our volunteers were struggling financially and didn't have time to help with fund raising efforts. We've been back in full operation for almost two years now and our volunteers and donors have been AMAZING! We've accomplished a lot for a lot of dogs in need.
We certainly didn't expect Layla's bills to be this high when we committed to helping her, but, of course, we don't regret saving her life! We don't want this to put is in a situation where we can't continue operations though. Can you help us continue saving Shibas? Even small donations can add up to big money, so any amount will be great appreciated!
