Hello friends, family, and supporters,
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. As many of you know, I have been working at SASS for the past 4 years. In my work during this time I have been the point person for SASS in the community, running events, recruiting volunteers, and spreading the word about our services. It is work that I have been personally passionate about even before I began my role at SASS.
So often we hear stories in the media, watch movies or television shows that depict the horrible occurrences of sexual assault, but rarely do we think it would be present or pervasive in our own communities.
When I was 6 years old a friend my age was sexually assaulted by an adult in the community. She confided in me, and while we knew it was wrong, we were unaware of what to do. Then when I was 18 another friend confided in me about her assault. I remember feeling so upset for her, and so devistated that yet another person I knew was being affected by this issue. I did what I could to console her, but I didn't how to fix it. Through working at SASS I learned that we can't fix it, but we can prevent it.
For this reason, I am greatly passionate about our ‘Safe kids. Strong Teens’ prevention education program, which helps children identify a safe person to talk to if they need help. Currently this program is presented to over 11,000 school aged children in both Rockingham and Strafford counties. While this may sound like a lot, there are over 40,000 school aged children in these counties.
So, please help by donating to our team and the ‘Safe kids. Strong teens.’ program. With your help SASS and A Safe Place will continue their collaborative effort to see all 40,000 children in our community. Every little bit counts toward helping me reach my goal. I am trying to raise $1,500 the annual cost for one entire grade level to go through the prevention education program.
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. But, if you would prefer to write a check, please make it out to SASS and put my name in the memo line and mail to SASS, 7 Junkins Avenue, Portsmouth, NH 03801.
With the team I will be running the 2011 Seacoast Half Marathon, that’s 13.1 miles….I think I can, I think I can!
Whoa nelly, I’m a runn’n!
Thank you in advance for any support you offer, financial or not. And please forward this onto whoever you think might want to donate too!
Sincerely,
Olivia Korpi
