I was first introduced to Canines for Service when I was teaching at a local (ILM) elementary school and someone told me, "There's dogs visiting in the library!" Well, you know me and dogs and so I had to go and meet them! I was told about the Paws for Reading program and saw this as a great opportunity to combine two things I love doing - hanging out with dogs and helping kids!
Ooch and I became a Therapy Team and certified in the Paws for Reading program and enjoyed going to schools and libraries. After I moved to Southport, we transitioned to weekly visits at an assisted living center in Southport. Through the "Power of the Paw", we were able to provide an opportunity for people who once owned dogs to have some cuddle time with Ooch AND also help one woman overcome her fear of dogs.
Ooch and I have since retired as a Therapy Team but I have not stopped my volunteer work with Canines for Service. Throught the years of my association with CFS, I have seen puppies be trained, mature and eventually be placed with their new owners. We have sponsored two puppies through the Puppy Partner program. I have met many of the clients and witnessed first hand how the dog/client team operate. I have heard the stories of how much of a positive impact a service dog has had on the lives of the people who receive them.
Thank you for supporting our team and helping to raise money for CFS so that they may continue providing services to the people who need them completely FREE of charge. Your donation, whether it be $1 or $1,000 will add to all the other donations and make a huge impact!
You can make a donation or come and join our team on Walk day!!! Either way, your support is much appreciated!!
