Walk/Run to Turn the Corner on Lyme
Dear Friends,
In 1996 we made the pilgrimage from NYC to Westport, and one of the things I looked forward to was having an organic vegetable garden. For my protection against Lyme disease I chose to take the Lymerix vaccine only to have had a severe reaction to the vaccine after the second dose therefore could not receive the third dose. In 2002 I was bitten by a tick that was co-infected with Bartonella and several strains of Lyme bacteria. It took several months to diagnose, then the rough road of three years on various antibiotic regimes from oral antibiotics to IV antibiotics. Due to my continued neurological and immune symptoms my treatment was changed to IVIG (gamma globulin infusions) to support my immune system and improve the neurological symptoms. Only recently I discovered I was also infected with Mycoplasma. I am finally on the slow road to recovery and seldom lost my sense of humor on the arduous journey of doctor and hospital hopping.
I decided it was time to try and make a difference so that other people's journeys are not such a nightmare. I have met many wonderful and caring Physicians and many new friends during my journey who have encouraged and helped me in this endeavor to be involved with starting an event to educate the public and raise awareness of this awful disease.
Please join me and my family for the third annual walk/run to turn the corner on Lyme on April 10, 2011.
