As the holiday season is approaching and this is the time of year that many of you donate, would you please consider giving to FMDSA. As you know I have fibromuscular dysplasia (fmd) and was diagnosed eleven years ago . My carotid, vertebral and renal arteries are affected ( you can see the disease in the picture of my renal artery). FMD causes areas of narrowing and stenosis to the affected artery. In 2000 both of my carotid arteries and my left vertebral dissected (tore) I had a stent placed in my right carotid artery in 2001 and in 2002 I had a second stent placed in my left carotid artery. For now my renal arteries are treated with medication to control my high blood pressure caused by the narrowing. I am very lucky to have survived my event and my passion has been to help others with the disease, raise awareness and promote research.

FMDSA has been VERY sucessful at raising awareness of the disease and funding a patient registry so that we can learn more about the disease. FMD clinics and programs have opened up all over the US and I just returned from Paris where I had the opportunity to meet with researchers their who also have an fmd patient registry, our goal is to make our registries compatible and to be able to work together.
