Paddi & John's Fundraising Page for Jose's Kitchen Project
Dear Friends ~
Thank you for visiting our fundraising page! As many of you know, we've been involved for several years with lending a helping hand to families of children with special needs in Cozumel, Mexico. Jose was the the first little guy that our friend, Martin, introduced us to. Currently we are working hand in hand with a non-profit organization called Carrie's Heart to help Jose's family build a new kitchen for their small house in the jungle. The old kitchen was nothing more than sticks and tin and the family's meals were all cooked on a rustic wood burning stove. This situation was not only a terrible fire hazard, but the smoke was bad for all of the family members, including Jose. The new kitchen project is moving along very quickly. The attached pictures show the progress that has been made in cleaning things out and starting the foundation. The major construction will begin next week.
The total projected construction costs are $2400. This will cover a new concrete floor, 2 meter walls around the perimeter, concrete wall beams and roof. The “windows” will be the open air concept of wood & screen. The abanil (mason) will be dropping in some electrical lines for no cost (for future hook-up, if possible) & he also is not charging for his personal labor, only that of the crew. A February mission group has offered to cover the cost of materials and their labor for building storage spaces, table/benches and counter tops. We may have other incidental expenses such as a new door, light fixture etc. that will come up.
We have raise $1,500 so far for this project. We still need to raise another $900 to cover the original construction plan and $100 for any unexpected expenses. A total of only $1000!
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also a very efficient way to support our fundraising efforts. A 7.5% service fee will be deducted by FirstGiving, but the other 92.5% goes directly to the project.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
Warm regards ~ Paddi & John
