Dear Friends & Family:
Thank you very much for visiting my fundraising page.
As many of you know, for the past three (3) years, I have run the Boston Marathon. Last year, I was unable to finish the marathon; I was stopped just short of Hereford Street as Boston Police and race officials halted the race.
Marathon training is very difficult. It requires dedication. It requires commitment. For Boston, it requires long, cold, dark and lonely runs. With every step, my thoughts inevitably drift to the events surrounding the 2013 Boston Marathon.
The tragedy of the bombing has affected us all in many different ways.
During challenging training runs, I am inspired by the actions of our first responders, casual spectators and fellow marathoners. However, I am particularly inspired by the quiet strength and courage the Richard family has demonstrated since the horror of April 15. As I think about Bill, Denise, Henry, Jane and Martin, the momentary physical aches and pain associated with a demanding run seem very temporary. The cold is not as bitter, the headwind is not as strong, the hills are not as steep and the distance is not as far.
As many people know, training for any marathon is a very demanding endeavor. Asking friends and family for support can be an equally daunting task. I’ve never run for a charity, but this year is different. There are many worthwhile charities to support, but I’m asking you to consider a special cause: Team MR8 - The Martin W. Richard Charitable Foundation.
This year, I'm running Boston 2014 with a purpose. Team MR8 is that purpose.
The Richard Family established The Martin W. Richard Charitable Foundation (Team MR8) as a way to honor their son Martin's message of “Peace”. Martin’s message of “Peace” went global in the days after he was tragically taken while cheering on runners at last year's race. While the pain of that day will forever be with us, the hope is that this special event becomes a source of strength for the Richard Family and a means to make a difference in the world. The mission of the Martin W. Richard Foundation is “to honor Martin's message of ‘No more hurting people – peace’ by investing in education, athletics and community.”
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts. You can also write a check payable to The Martin W. Richard Charitable Foundation and forward to my home address. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your support and please take a moment to visit www.TeamMR8.org to learn more about the foundation’s mission. Please feel free to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate.
